Instant messaging service platform, whatsapp has crossed 50 million monthly active users in India. India is also the largest country when it comes to the number of monthly active whatsapp users. Just last fortnight WhatsApp had crossed 48 million monthly active users in the country.

WhatsApp has also tied up with Airtel to provide special WhatsApp only data packs. Depending on the circle, the plan costs between Rs 36 and Rs 49 and offer 200MB of WhatsApp only data usage. Airtel subscribers can text ‘Whatsapp’ to 121 to activate the plan.

This is not the first carrier tieup WhatsApp has done in India. It already provides similar plans with Tata Docomo, RCom and Uninor.
