Facebook was testing rooms feature in messenger from September. And the new feature has been released for the users in Australia and Canada.

Mark Zuckerberg owned social network launched a stand-apart Rooms application in October 2014. The aim behind it was to bring the users together on a platform where they can discuss random topics with texts, photos and videos without revealing their real names.

But the application was shuttered down with Riff and Slingshot apps in December 2015.

It was reported by Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson of Australian Newspaper in The Courier Mail on Friday, 11th Nov 2016, that the room feature of messenger will be soon tested in Australia and Canada.

This new feature is being tested so that users can avoid sharing content with those friends who aren’t interested. Drew Moxon, the product manager told Dudley-Nicholson, “Group chats today are focused on people you know–friends and family–and what we’ve found by talking to users is there’s a lot of need for conversations about specific topics. This will be for topic-based conversations and so people can talk with others they may not know”.
