Facebook lifted the ban made on running ads for Cryptocurrency.

After 5 months of the ban made in January 2018, Facebook is again allowing advertisers to include Cryptocurrency in campaigns.

Facebook’s initial statement was-

“This policy is intentionally broad while we work to better detect deceptive and misleading advertising practices… We will revisit this policy and how we enforce it as our signals improve.”

Facebook was actively trying to refine this policy over the past few months. Now only pre-approved advertisers will be able to advertise Cryptocurrency and related content.

Although Facebook has made no change to the policy to advertise binary options and initial coin offerings. These ads are still banned.

Advertisers who want to run campaigns for Cryptocurrency needs to submit an application. After that, applicant’s eligibility will be assessed considering following criteria-

  • Any licenses they have
  • Have they been traded on a public stock exchange?
  • Other significant public background information about the business

Everyone who wants to promote Cryptocurrency ads will not be able to do so. Although the company will keep assessing this policy and further revisions would be seen.

“Given these restrictions, not everyone who wants to advertise will be able to do so. But we’ll listen to feedback, look at how well this policy works and continue to study this technology so that, if necessary, we can revise it over time.”

Following Facebook’s steps for Cryptocurrency ban in January,Google AdWords and Bing Ads have also done that.

As of now, Facebook is the only and first advertiser to reverse the ban.
