An Interview with Co- Founder of Vanitycube.in, Renu Bisht

Delhi-NCR based, VanityCube was founded by Renu Bisht and Pragya Upadhyay in 2014 with a motto to become – ‘Uber for Beauty’. VanityCube delivers on-demand professional and affordable beauty and wellness services at your doorstep as early as in 90 minutes across NCR region. The demand for beauty services in the comfort of one’s desired location is strong as it saves time.

Q1. Hi Renu and welcome. We are going to talk today about your business. How did the idea of “VanityCube” come to your mind?
Ans. VanityCube started last year with a personal need of not able to make it to salon for our monthly rituals due to hectic work schedule, long queues during weekend and by the time you step out to a salon they would close down. Spending 3-4 hours in salon for basic facials and waxing was quite taxing.
Q2. And how has the journey been so far?
Ans.It is a roller coaster ride. We started with a team of 4 people and today with a team size of almost 100 people. We not only have happy home clients but we provide regular service in office premise, hotels and wedding venue. We have recently come up with a Salon inside SNAPDEAL in Gurgaon and tied up with budget hotels like OYO rooms and others. We do regular express services in corporate premise of Jabong, Knowlarity, Sprinklr , hike and many others.
Q3.  What is your service range and which are your most popular services at VanityCube?
Ans.Currently we provide service to all women in Delhi NCR and Mumbai with service like makeup, facial, waxing, manicure, pedicure, hairstyling etc. Our most popular services are party makeup, facial, waxing and pedicure.
Q4. I think there is quite a lot of competition in your business field. What’s special about your products?
Ans. We bring Convenience, Affordability, service quality at customer doorstep. Our unique selling proposition of being able to serve customer within 90 min is what make us more special. Beauty is very instant and a customer does not want to wait for it. We have beautician and makeup artist from top salon serving our client from 9 am-9 pm all 7 days
Q5. How did you learn to run a business? Trial and error? Outside help?
Ans.I think, we had an idea and we kick started. In this whole process we did made some advisor and mentors who can help us time to time in critical decision making.
Q6.  What are the next steps for Vanity cube?
Ans.We have recently launched our services in Mumbai and plan to expand in 5 more cities by next year.
Q7.How has been the feedback of your clients?
Ans. Home salon concept is not very new, people use to call salon ladies at home but times have changed and so are customers. Customer looks out for more clean and hygienic services and some top quality brands of products and we fulfill all of their expectations by brining a salon kind experience at home. Client’s feedback has been encouraging and we have a high percentage of repeat customers which also include film stars and TV actors.
Q8 How do you advertise your business? Tell us, what is the role of digital marketing in your market initiatives?
Ans.We use both online and offline mode of marketing to reach out to our target market. Role of digital marketing is huge in this tech driven era. To reach out to your customer and spreading awareness about the brand becomes difficult in offline marketing but digital marketing help us reach out to larger audience with great impact.

Q9. Most young entrepreneurs have a hard time finding funding for their ideas. How important is funding?

Ans.That’s not always true, Indian markets have opened to startup and there are lot of young angel investors who would like to invest in a great idea. If you are able to show growth and numbers to the potential investors, fetching fund will not be a tough task. Having said that, the investors also look out for a great team who can run the business efficiently, so building a strong core team is very important.

Q10.  What advice would you give to any entrepreneur wanna-be’s? What’s the biggest business mistake you ever made?

Ans.I think whatever business idea we work upon, we need to trust that idea. If there are 5 people who would say this idea is not going to work, just ignore them and keep working on it until you feel it`s not giving you result and tweak it according to the market requirement. Entrepreneurs must also focus on gaps in the existing market and come up with ideas to fulfill that instead of reinventing the wheel in the same segment. It`s too early to call it a big mistake but if you are running a tech business, have your tech team ready
