As announced by LinkedIn’s Executive Chairman and Co-Founder, Reid Hoffman in a blog post, LinkedIn is going to launch ‘Volunteer Marketplace’, which is an initiative to provide a dedicated volunteer marketplace for professionals and nonprofits to connect with each other.
This market place will enable the professionals to browse through the opportunities posted by nonprofits and at the same time will allow nonprofits to reach out to the LinkedIn members.
Explaining the vision behind this new initiative, Hoffman said, “LinkedIn’s vision is to create economic opportunity for every member of the global workforce. Jeff and I have discussed this vision in terms of the development of the world’s first economic graph, i.e. a complete digital representation of the global economy, including all full-time, part-time, and volunteer opportunities.”[useful_banner_manager banners=25 count=1]
With the help of this portal, LinkedIn plans to target groups like students, working professionals, retired professionals and stay-at-home parents. However, posting on this portal is not free.
Corroborating the same to TechCrunch, a company spokesperson said, “Yes, we are charging a nominal fee to help with quality and fraud control when you post. We are investing all revenue directly back to the nonprofit sector, to increase the liquidity of the postings.”
