Google Introduces In-App Content Search Globally

05/04/2014

Google has launched in-app content search, which is a service that prompts you to open a search result via an app installed on your device instead of continuing with the same in your browser.

Say for example you are searching for movie tickets via Google search app. This in-app content search service will allow you to book those movie tickets via your app; instead of zooming in and browsing through a ticketing website.

The main concern here is that every app now needs Google’s ‘App Indexing’ code to enable deep links or those ‘Open in App’ buttons. A few apps that have participated in the app indexing so far are 500px, BigOven, Booking.com, Glassdoor, Huffington Post, Pinterest, Seeking Alpha, The Journal, Tumblr, Wattpad, Zappos, AOL, Bleacher Report, Eventbrite, Goodreads, Merriam-Webster, Realtor.com, TalkAndroid, TheFreeDictionary, TripAdvisor, Urbanspoon, YP, Zagat and Zillow.

Although, in-app content search was announced by Google sometime back, but was only limited to certain geographic regions. However, now the service will be available globally.
