Twitter is going to acquire Twitpic, which is an image and video sharing service for Twitter. The micro blogging site is taking this initiative in order to archive all data in ‘read-only’ mode. Twitter will keep all the Twitpic links and photos alive on the website, changing the media sharing platform into “read-only” mode and the company will also be getting Twitpic’s website domain as part of the acquisition.

As announced by Twitpic last month, the company anyway was going to shut down after receiving a trademark dispute from Twitter.

As informed by Twitpic founder Noah Everett, the online social media outlet wanted Twitpic to abandon the trademark application or else they would lose access to the company’s API. He also said that since the image and video sharing service company did not have sufficient money to take the matter to the court, it had to shut down.

“This will be my (@noaheverett) final chapter with Twitpic, and again I want to say thank you for allowing me to be a part of your photo sharing memories for nearly seven years. It has been an honor,” Twitpic founder Noah Everett said in a blogpost.

According to the agreement, Twitpic will no longer be able to accept new photos or any other kind of content. Moreover, its application too won’t be restored to the Google Play and Apple App stores.
