Recently, Google has given information about how it geotargets search rankings to users in different locations across the world and it talks of ccTLD and Search Console Settings.

John Mueller, a Google Webmaster Trends Analyst, said that:

“For geotargeting we use mostly the ccTLD or search console setting, so place the server where it works best for you.”

Previously Google was using the location of the server to determine the ranking of a website. However, now Google uses ccLTDSs, which is a domain extension.

If your domain has a location-specific extension, Google is more likely to geotarget results for your site to searchers in that specific country.
