instant-articles

Leading online-publishing tool WordPress has introduced a feature to help publishers easily post their content as Instant Articles on Facebook.

The plugin creates a special RSS feed that automatically optimizes posts to appear as Instant Articles. The plugin is open-source and customizable.

Facebook said it worked with “a small group of publishers” that run on WordPress, including Foreign Policy and Tribune Media’s Zap2it, to test the plugin.

Instant Articles will be available for everyone starting April 12, when Facebook holds its annual F8 developer conference in San Francisco. Hundreds of publishers are already publishing on Instant Articles.

Publishers of all sizes will also have the option to let Facebook sell advertising into their Instant Articles through its ad network product, the Facebook Audience Network. If publishers sell their own ads, they get to keep 100% of the revenue. If they opt to use the Facebook Audience Network, they keep 70%.

In addition to Facebook’s Instant Articles, WordPress is also supporting Google’s “Accelerated Mobile Pages” initiative. A WordPress plugin for AMP pages was released in late February.
