Have you ever wondered why sites like Wikipedia and Urban dictionary are always at the top of every search results you see and your website, despite having high-quality content and everything, is at the bottom of it? The answer to that question, however, is your page and domain authority score.

As a webmaster, I am sure that you guys have heard of this term, coming across you so often. While most people know exactly what that means, there are several not having a clue about it.

As said, domain and page authority are the metric scores given to your site indicating how well it’s performing in a race to the top of a Search Engine Result Page or SERP.

The higher your site’s PA and DA scores are, the higher are your chances in ranking on top of the results chart.

Therefore, if you have a website that rests at the bottom of the SERP, then I suggest that you look at your page and domain authority and how can it be improved.

What are page authority and domain authority and how are they calculated?

Think of them, as being two sides of the same coin and you will get the basic idea as to what they are about. To say it simply, the DA refers to the overall authoritative score of the entire domain while the PA relates to the reliable score of individual pages in that domain. These two scores in unison are what that determines if the site in question ranks higher or lower in a Search Engine Result Page or SERP, as it is popularly known.

The domain authority score is the thing that determines how well the webpage that domain contains is going to Rank in SERP. If the DA score is on the higher side of the curve, then the webpage and the domain will enjoy a better placement in the search results.

The page authority score, on the other hand, deals with how good the ranking capability of a single individual page is regardless what it contains. Much like the DA, the PA score is what finally determines if that individual page in question is going to rank better or not.

Choosing a domain name and hosting is as important as how quality your content is. Hence, it is always recommended having fresh and unique content. You might get support from multiple free online plagiarism checker tools available.

Moz.com is the leader and creator of this revolutionary method, and they are still the go-to guys if you want to put your domain through the wringer. This method calculates the DA and PA scores of your website by using what they call as Moz metrics.

Each PA & DA test uses about 40 or more such factors including a number of links, readability and aesthetics level for determining what the actual end score will be.

The scores are given out of 100, and the spot you look for your website should be above 75. The Wikipedia scores nearly 95, per each of their pages, and that is why they rank so much better against their competitors.

As the score is based on a logarithmic scale, it would be easier to increase your score from 20 to 30. However, this also means that if you are in the 70+ range with your site, then it would be much harder to climb up from it.

The good news is that considering some aspects, you can too increase your sites ranking status considerably much like what I did with mine. Here are a few ways I used to boost my ranking game in SERP. Let’s take a look:

6 Foolproof Ways to Increase Your Page Authority and Domain Authority Scores

1) Content quality is everything

This is a no-brainer if the content you are having on your site is not right then you will apparently get a low, authoritative score. The site content should be SEO-friendly, informative and approachable. Too much technical jargon and things will put off the readers and the score as well. So, keep everything simple and short.

Make the content on your site more user-friendly by using plenty of images and graphs to get the point across. Plagiarism is a big no-no so, keep everything original and make it a point to post good, new content frequently as possible.

2) SEO is the oil for your domain’s engine

SEO is the defining factor that determines if your site is good enough to top the SERP charts. Even if the content or everything else is excellent, a bad SEO footprint will surely kick that page to the far end of the SERP. Make it a point to use on-page SEO every time you post new content on your site.

Keywords are the magical things that make SEO function, however; over-stuffing them in your posts leave a negative impact on it. Therefore, use them where they are needed like title tags, first paragraph and Meta descriptions and in such places.

3) Linking is the way to go up

Link building is one of the essential factors that determine your overall PA & DA scores. A proper linking system can make the job of a search engine bot much more accessible and can help it crawl quickly to your site. Linking your new posts with your related old ones can do more than just helping you concentrate on your niche, but can also help in spreading the PA score evenly throughout your site.

The habit of linking and forgetting about them afterward is a big mistake which should not be made. You need to maintain them, keep them running and more importantly you have to keep an eye on those spammy and broken links as they rear their ugly heads.

4) Grow your brand’s authority

In this age of social media, keeping your site to yourself is might be the most idiotic mistake you can ever make. A good online presence is one of the most critical factors that determine what will be your sites overall score in the end. Like Wikipedia that earned their huge authorities score through the efficient use of backlinks, social media sites have plenty of links running left and right.

Therefore, sharing a backlink to your article without being overly spammy in any way might be exactly what you need to get your site up and to run perfectly. Guest posting every so often can increase your web footprint ten-fold, and it can help in making valuable connections, which will come in handy later on.

5) Speed and quality rule

Having a site that takes forever to load is undoubtedly an awful thing. A recent study found that if the site in question is taking over 5 seconds to load, then that site is losing nearly a quarter of their daily visitors to their competitive fast loading rival sites. To get a decent, high authoritative score, the site needs to be quick in loading and user-friendly.

Having a site that has ungainliness can leave a horrible impression on the reader; therefore, keep it simple, efficient and neat. Most of the web searches being made nowadays are from mobile devices and handheld computers, so it would be a great idea to get your site mobile optimized.

This all will mean nothing if the domain name you are rocking is hard and easy to forget, it should be relevant, easy to pronounce and quick to remember.

6) Wait and let your domain grow old

Owning a successful site is not something that you can do overnight, or at the flick of a finger, it takes time, patience and dedication. The main two things that determine a domain’s success are its age and quality. Let your site grow old and keep it posted with good contents on the way, and in a few years, you will surely have a good website.

Worrying or caring about the DA and PA score of a relatively new site is not needed, however; if the site is a few years older, then you should have a look at how it is faring in the SERP.

Conclusion

Although the page authority and domain scores are important, they are not something to lose your sleep on. Just keep on posting relevant quality content like you always do, and in time, the internet and the world will recognize you for what you are. The whole PA and DA scores are just an index or prediction on how your site is doing in the results charts.

A low DA score does not mean that your site is awful or a great PA score can make you king of the world. It just means that you have an index to look rely on. Just go with the flow and do good work and eventually your site will go up in rankings.

  3. Yes, I totally agree with your opinion. Excellent points you have mentioned now I can know how I can increase my Blog’s DA. You are unquestionably right. Domain Authority is an overall website’s SEO score. Many webmaster SEO people do more wrong than good to their domain by spending for cheap links on Tumblr and other freelance sites.

In short, CONTENT IS KING, and then I would like to add an extension to that; TRAFFIC means royalty for the king. Smart SEO people and developers create a new site, produced high quality of content and distribute it into social medias, and after one week, their content went viral really fast, their sites have ranked up to #1 Google for Long Tail Keyword. Moreover, I think that having high-quality backlinks is the most important factor that makes a great impact on DA. Of course, there are loads of other factors that affect SEO; however, HQ backlinks are absolutely essential for a good DA level.

Anyways, thank you very much! I find this post to be very useful!
